Assassination
In March 1981, Hinckley was involved[How?] in the assassination of Ronald Reagan but was found not guilty by reason of insanity but was sent for treatment to a Washington hospital.[1]

Motive?
Mark Gorton and Trowbridge Ford suggest that Hinckley's assassination attempt was organised by the Cabal so that Vice president George H. W. Bush could assume full control.[2][3]
"No longer a danger"
In July 2016, ordering his release, US District Judge Paul Friedman said Mr Hinckley no longer posed a danger to himself or others.[1]
