Jessica de Grazia Jeans is resident of Southwold in Suffolk where she is a Town Councillor, Trustee of the Suffolk Preservation Society and Deputy Chair of SouthGen (Southwold and Waveney Valley Regeneration Society Ltd) which has been leading a campaign to redevelop the old Southwold and District Hospital for community use.[1] Jessica Jeans said:

“The community can be enormously proud of what has been achieved. This is the first time in England and Wales that a hospital has been bought back for community use. This is a visionary project that will make a huge difference to Southwold and Reydon, and we could not have done it without Hastoe’s help.”

Among the facilities included in the scheme are a community café, public library, business centre and a crèche. Hastoe will turn part of the site into housing units – five of which will be affordable homes.[2]

District Attorney

Jessica de Grazia spent her early career at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York, where she served as First Assistant District Attorney, with oversight of 500 lawyers and 1000 support staff. There she developed innovative programmes to reduce violent crime and improve the delivery of justice to minority communities.

SFO Review

She moved to Southwold in 1987 with her two children and husband Christopher Jeans, a documentary film maker raised in Suffolk.[3] In England, she developed an investigative legal practice, providing fact-finding and strategic advice for complex litigation involving organised crime, corruption and terrorism. At the request of Attorney General Lord Peter Goldsmith, she conducted a Review of the Serious Fraud Office (2008) and has worked in Guyana, Mozambique and Canada, helping to develop the capacity of police and prosecutors to investigate and prosecute complex crime.

Publications

Publications include "DEA: War Against Drugs" (BBC Books) and "The U.S. Constitution and the Ethos of Prosecutorial Independence" (SMMP Portugal and US State Department). Jessica is a member of the Bar of England and Wales (Inner Temple, Associate 6 KBW College Hill) and the New York State and Federal Bar. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago and the Yale Law School.[4]
