Background
Illich was born in Austria in 1926. After the anschluss with Germany, his family left for Italy.
Discipline
After his protector Cardinal Spelman died, Illich was called to Rome.
Ideas
Illich was a radical critic of the modern worldview. He developed an original and unorthodox critique of consumer society and of the process of institutionalisation.[1]
