The "Independent Police Complaints Commission" was a group interested in complaints about the UK police. It was succeeded on 8 January 2018 by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Killing of Jean Charles de Menezes

Lana Vandenberghe‎ was dismissed after leaking documents to ITN because she was unhappy with the story told by commercially-controlled media about the manner of Jean Charles de Menezes' demise. At the inquest into his death, Steve Reynolds from the IPCC "said no [CCTV] footage was recorded for a variety of reasons". On the bus, excessive vibrations meant that cameras were not working. At Stockwell Tube station, a workman had stepped on a cable, preventing recording of any the cameras on platform two. He reported that no footage was available from the underground train in de Menezes he was killed because the recording unit had been removed as part of the inquiry into the July 7 attacks.[1] This pattern of missing CCTV footage is not an exceptional one.

Police Action Lawyers Group resignations

In February 2008 over a hundred lawyers who specialise in handling police complaints resigned from its advisory body, citing various criticisms of the IPCC including a pattern of favouritism towards the police, indifference and rudeness towards complainants, and complaints being rejected in spite of apparently powerful evidence in their support.[2]
