Hans Vatne was a transatlantic editor-in-chief of the Norwegian conservative newspaper Aftenposten.

Career

Hans Vatne joined Morgenbladet in 1946 and Aftenposten in 1950. From 1953 to 1964 he was a subeditor in Morgenposten, but he then returned to Aftenposten in 1964. Here he was promoted to political editor in 1968 and editor-in-chief in 1970. He retired in 1984 and died the following year.[1]

In an obituary in Aftenposten on 11 October 1985, the newspaper's editor-in-chief Egil Sundar wrote, among other things:

He was a newspaper man all his life, and he got to practice an activity that few others are fortunate enough to do except precisely the practitioners of this peculiar profession. … Vatne's time as editor-in-chief of Aftenposten coincided with an eventful and in some cases very dramatic period in Norwegian politics. … Cooperation within Norwegian politics and externally in relations with our allies remained as pillars in Aftenposten's political message under Vatnes' leadership of the newspaper. Vatne had the pleasure of noting that Aftenposten's influence and political influence has never been greater in recent times.[2]

Connections

Vatne was also a board member of the Norwegian Press Association from 1957 to 1963 and a member of the Norwegian Press Complaints Commission from 1961 to 1964.
