Gab is a social networking service known for its far-right userbase. It has a strict free speech approach for which it is criticized.

History

Gab launched publicly in May 2017 as a microblogging platform similar to Twitter. In February 2019, Gab launched Dissenter, a browser extension and website that allows Gab users to make comments on content hosted on any website via an overlay visible only to those logged into Dissenter or using the extension. This allows commentary that bypasses individual site moderation practices.

A tweet that was apparently removed by Twitter

Following the 2021 storming of the Capitol in Washington and a concentrated attack on a similar platform, Parler, Gab posted that it had a massive influx of job applications from Silicon Valley.[1][2] With being the only alternative to Twitter in January 2021 after the purges[3] and take-down of Parler, Gab has a solid influx of users.[4]
