The speech refers to the "immensely powerful Zionist lobby in the United States" having "bent American foreign policy" from one of benevolence "to an undisguised defense of Israel, to the prejudice of American international interests in the Middle East, in particular our oil interests as well as the attainment of peace" and describes how, from a "position of universal respect and good will we once enjoyed in the Arab world before creation of the State of Israel, we are left with no firm friends on whom we may count in that area except Israel". Childs blames the oil-shock of 1973 on anger against the US due to its support of Israel.
