Diazepam is a drug of the benzodiazepine class. It was first marketed under the Band name 'Valium'. It is a very widely used drug. In the US it was the highest selling drug between 1968 and 1982, selling more than two billion tablets in 1978 alone.

Suicide bid?

In 1987, Robert McFarlane reportedly attempted suicide from an overdose of diazepam after the "Iran-Contra" affair was reported by commercially-controlled media.[1]
