Sir Charles Blandford Farr was a spooky UK civil servant.

Background

Charles Farr was born around 1959. He studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he completed a Ph.D in the philosophy of aesthetics.

Career

The UK government reports that "Charles joined the Diplomatic Service in 1985".[1] He worked for the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in Afghanistan in the 1980s, in southern Africa and the Middle East.[citation needed]

He was MI6's director of security and public affairs in July 2007 when he was given the job of Director of Security and Public Affairs by John Reid to the position. The Financial Times reported in April 2014 that Farr was one of three people shortlisted for the role of Director of GCHQ, a job later given to Robert Hannigan.

Farr was advised by Jahan Mahmood for three years "on deradicalisation issues".[2]
