Advisors
Daniel Benjamin is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on the U.S. and Europe at the Brookings Institution and co-author of The Age of Sacred Terror (Random House, 2002) and The Next Attack (Henry Holt, 2005), which examine the evolution of the terrorist threat since 9/11.
Eugenio Maria Curia is Argentina's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna. His previous posts included Chief Legal Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and Representative / National Coordinator to the Financial Action Task Force on Money-Laundering.
Dr. Anja Dalgaard-Nielsen is Senior Researcher and Head of the research unit on Terrorism at the Danish Institute for International Studies in Copenhagen.
Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat is a former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business, and Agricultural Affairs, and Ambassador to the European Union. He is currently with the law firm of Covington & Burling as a partner, where he heads the firm's international practice.
Rosemary Foot is Professor of International Relations, and the John Swire Senior Research Fellow at St Antony's College, Oxford University. Her principal research interests are in the International Relations of the Asia-Pacific, particularly security policies, human rights, regional institutional and normative developments, and US-China relations. One of her current research projects is to examine the human rights consequences of counter-terrorist policies after September 11th 2001.
Thomas Franck is the Murry and Ida Becker Professor of Law Emeritus at New York University’s School of Law, a leader in the field of international law, and past president of the American Society of International Law.
Professor Zdzislaw W. Galicki is a Professor in the Institute of International Law, University of Warsaw. He has been a member of the UN International Law Commission since 1997 and participates in the work of the Committee of Experts on Terrorism of the Council of Europe (CODEXTER), where he is a member of the Bureau.
Richard N. Gardner was US Ambassador to Italy from 1977 to 1981 and as U.S. Ambassador to Spain from 1993 to 1997. He is currently professor of law and international organization at Columbia Law School and counsel to the global law firm of Morgan Lewis.
Sir Jeremy Greenstock was the first chair of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee, the UK Permanent Representative to the UN (1998-2003), UK Special Representative for Iraq (2003-04), and is currently director of the Ditchley Foundation.
Professor Carolina Hernandez is currently Professorial Lecturer after having retired as Professor of Political Science at the University of the Philippines in May 2006 where she was also holder of the Carlos P. Romulo Professorial Chair in International Relations. Her research interests include regionalism, regional security and foreign relations, military in politics and governance, democracy and development, and Philippine domestic politics and foreign policy.
Dr. Karin von Hippel is Co-Director of the Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Previously she was a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Defence Studies, King’s College London. She has served with the United Nations and the European Union in Somalia and Kosovo and conducted extensive research on how development assistance can help address conditions conducive to the spread of "terrorism".
Dr. Bruce Jones is Co-Director of New York University's Center on International Cooperation. Previously he served as a Senior Officer for Follow-up to the High-level Panel in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General and as chief of staff to the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
Dr. Chantal de Jonge Oudraat is currently a Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University. She is also an adjunct associate professor at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, vice president of Women in International Security and member of the editorial board of the Annuaire Francais de Relations Internationales.
Professor Edward Luck is the director of the Center on International Organization of the School of International and Public Affairs and Professor in the Professional Practice of International Affairs, Columbia University.
Ambassador William Luers is the president of the United Nations Association of the USA, a center for innovative programs to engage Americans in issues of global concern. Ambassador Luers previously served for 13 years as president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City and had a distinguished 31-year career in the Foreign Service where he served as US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia and Venezuela.
Ambassador Colin Keating is executive director of the Security Council Report. He previously served as the Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations and as the Secretary for Justice at the New Zealand Ministry of Justice.
Ambassador Kishore Mahbubani is currently Dean of the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. He previously served as the Permanent Representative of Singapore to the United Nations and Singapore's Ambassador to the United States.
General Ved Prakash Malik retired on 30 September 2000 as Chief of Staff of the Indian Army after 41 years of distinguished military service.
Professor Tiyanjana Maluwa is Associate Dean for International Affairs and H. Laddie Montague Chair in Law at the Penn State Dickinson School of Law and Director of the Penn State School of International Affairs.
Dr. Saker M. Al-Mokayyad is Director of the International Cooperation Department at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Peter R. Neumann is Director of the Centre for Defence Studies at King’s College London. He was Academic Director of the Club de Madrid's International Summit on Democracy, Terrorism and Security in Madrid in March 2005, and served as senior advisor to the National Policy Forum on Terrorism, Security and America's Purpose in the United States in September 2005. His latest book, The Strategy of Terrorism, will be published by Routledge in late 2007 (co-authored with MLR Smith). Before becoming an academic, Dr Neumann was a radio journalist in Germany.
Dr. Bertrand Ramcharan is the HEI Swiss Chair of Human Rights at the Geneva Graduate Institute of International Studies. He previously served as Deputy UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Professor Fernando Reinares is Director of the Program on Global Terrorism at the Elcano Royal Institute for International and Strategic Studies and Professor of Political Science and Security Studies at King Juan Carlos University in Madrid. He is a member of the Council on Global Terrorism in Washington, the advisory committee of the Queen Sofía Center for the Study of Violence in Valencia, and the board of the "terrorism" studies programme at the University of St Andrews. Professor Reinares is a Contributing Editor of Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and belongs to the editorial board of Terrorism and Political Violence. He was Senior Adviser on Antiterrorist Policy to the Minister of Interior in Spain between 2004 and 2006, when he became Chairman of the European Commission Expert Group on Violent Radicalization.
Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim is former Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania and former Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity. Other previous positions held by Dr. Salim in Tanzania include, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Defense and National Service, and Minister for Foreign Affairs. Dr. Salim also has held numerous senior diplomatic and United Nations positions and is currently the President of the Julius K. Nyerere Foundation.
Ambassador Dr. Mohamed I. Shaker is Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. He previously served as Egypt's ambassador to Australia and the United Kingdom as well as President to the III Preparatory Conference of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
Gijs de Vries is currently a Senior Fellow at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael' in The Hague. He served previously as the European Union's first ever Counter-Terrorism Coordinator.[1]
