Canadian-Latvian business executive who attended the 2018 Bilderberg.

Baiba Anda Rubesa is a Canadian-Latvian businesswoman and public relations specialist who attended the 2018 Bilderberg.

She has worked with several multinational corporations, and in the period 2015-2018 was chairman of the board and CEO of BaltRail, a plan to build a modern rail line through the Baltic states.[1][2]

Background

She was born in 1954, in the family of exile Canadian-Latvian businessman and banker Bruno Rubess, a former member of the SS Latvian Legion during World War 2, and his wife Biruta. Bruno Rubess was heavily involved with the Latvian community in Toronto[3], and presumably also with the intelligence services.

She studied at York University and Shaw College in Toronto.[4][5][6]

She is the sister of CEO Banuta Rubess.

She worked for Volkswagen Group in Germany and Czechoslovakia (1985-1992).

Latvian career

After moving to Latvia she was marketing and public relations director of Statoil Baltic States (1996-2000) and CEO of Latvija Statoil Ltd. (2001-2008). Rubesa was on the Board of the bank DnB Nord, from 2004 until 2007.

She headed the Council of foreign investors in Latvia, as well as was vice-president of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and industry from 2008 until 2010. From 2010 to 2013, Rubesa was the director for cooperation with state institutions for Statoil Azerbaijan, then held the position of vice-president of Corporate Social Responsibility at Statoil ASA (2010-2013)[7], was a member of the board of Citadele Banka (2012-2015).

From 2009 until 2015, she was a consultant and business development manager of LLC RFactor.

Rubesa created the Wundrbr internet site, which aimed to provide information and advice on how to grow old after the age of 55. She also sits on the council of the think tank Providus and the Council of the Koknese Foundation, which supports the development of the memorial "Garden of Destiny".[4]

From 2015 until 2018, Rubesa was chairman of the board and CEO of JSC RB Rail, which carries out the implementation of the Rail Baltica railway infrastructure project.[8] From 2016 until 2019 Rubesa was a member of the Human Resources Committee of the Board of the Latvian electricity company Latvenergo. In 2020 she was elected to the board of Electronics Manufacturing Company HansaMatrix in May[9], and in June 2021 she became chairman of the HansaMatrix Council.
