Dr Antonie T. Knoppers was an executive in the pharma company Merck who attended the Bilderberg.
Background
A native of the Netherlands, he received his medical degree in 1939 from the University of Amsterdam and a doctorate in pharmacology in 1941 from the University of Leiden.[1]
Career
He was Professor of Pharmacology at the Free University of Amsterdam. Knoppers became a citizen of the United States in 1958. Knoppers joined Merck and Co. in 1952 and held various positions in the International Division of Merck Sharp and Dohme, becoming President of the Division in 1957, elected a member of the Board of Directors of Merck in 1970, and President and Chief Operating Officer of Merck in 1971 until his retirement.
He served as Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Salzburg Seminar, and as a Director on the Boards of Hewlett Packard, Scott Paper Co., Humana, Ahold, Centocor, Agouron, and the Salk Institute.[1]
Knoppers was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Century Club, Baltusrol Club, and the Metropolitan Opera Club, proudly serving as President of the Opera Club 1987-1988.
He was a director in the International Management and Development Institute.[2]
He died aged 88.[1]
