27 year old pilot who was blamed for the crash of Germanwings Flight 9525

Andreas Günter Lubitz was a German pilot. As co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 he was blamed to have intentionally brought down the plane in the French Alps, a narrative that was told by French prosecutor Brice Robin just 48 hours after the event.[1]

On the second anniversary of the event in March 2017, journalist Tim van Beveren presented the results of his own investigations at a press conference attended by Lubitz's father,[2][3] according to which the co-pilot had not intentionally caused the crash. He said that it was "quite possible" that Andreas Lubitz's health had been impaired by "contaminated cabin air", which could have caused "psychological changes, up to and including total cognitive failure". Turbulence or technical defects were also possible.[4][5] The Düsseldorf public prosecutor's office immediately rejected these statements.[6] The concluded proceedings had proven "a clear responsibility of Andreas Lubitz as the culprit".[7] The French investigating authorities also confirmed that the co-pilot had deliberately brought the plane down.[8]
