Ali Abdussalam Treki (10 October 1937 – 19 October 2015) was a Libyan diplomat in Muammar Gaddafi's government.

Ali Treki was one of Libya's top diplomats beginning in the 1970s and ending with the 2011 Attacks on Libya. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1976 to 1982 and again from 1984 to 1986, and he was later the Permanent Representative to the United Nations on several occasions.

Ali Treki was President of the United Nations General Assembly from September 2009 to September 2010.[1]

In April 2011, Ali Treki was reported to have defected from Libya when a family member issued a statement saying that he had quit the government and left for Egypt. In an interview in Cairo, Ali Treki confirmed that he had left his job and the country and said that resolving the conflict would require Libya’s becoming a democracy. But he did not call himself a defector:

“There are people who do not want to defect to one side or the other,” he said. “They just don’t want to be part of this situation continuing. A lot of Libyans think like me. They think our country should be saved. We have to stop this killing and fighting. All fighting should be stopped.”

Although Ali Treki said he did not want to criticise Colonel Gaddafi, he added that any resolution would require that the Libyan leader, and his sons, give up power to make way for a transition to democracy under United Nations auspices.[2]
