Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, which is a nom de guerre, was born Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri al Samarrai near the city of Samarra in Iraq.

On 20 June 2017, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said he was unable to confirm an announcement by the Russian Army that it may have killed al-Baghdadi on 28 May 2017 during an airstrike on the outskirts of Islamic State's de facto capital Raqqa in Syria.[1]

Official Narrative

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi leads the Islamic State terrorist group and has proclaimed himself to be Caliph of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant which is located in western Iraq and north-eastern Syria.[2] On 4 October 2011, the US State Department listed al-Baghdadi as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" and announced a reward of up to US$10 million for information leading to his capture or death.[3]

On 29 June 2014, ISIS announced the establishment of a Caliphate, al-Baghdadi was named its Caliph, to be known as Caliph Ibrahim, and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant was renamed the Islamic State (IS).[4]

John McCain connection

The New York Times has denied the identity of the man picture with John McCain, stating that "The [false] rumors are based partly on images of a Syrian fighter who resembles Mr. Baghdadi, seen in photographs with Mr. McCain". However, as Global Research points out, it "freely admits that McCain met with the Free Syrian Army, itself a terrorist organization responsible for indiscriminate killings, imposition of sharia law, murders, rapes, cannibalism and more."[5]

Simon Elliot claim

In 2014, it was reported that Edward Snowden had claimed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is a Jewish actor whose real name is Simon Elliot (Elliot Shimon)[6] who, was recruited by Mossad and trained in espionage and psychological warfare.[7] The origin of these reports seems to be a Facebook post from July 29, 2014.[8] This attributes the claim to leaks from Edward Snowden, but does not provide a source. Snowden’s lawyer, Ben Wizner, has called the story a hoax, while Glenn Greenwald said it was "utter BS".[9]
