In May 2021, the Cyprus government announced it was planning a "Coronapass" system that would be required for businesses to reopen. The Cypriot Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou stated that "We cannot keep the economy and society shut for too long”. The Cyprus Bar Association, declared the idea unconstitutional.[1]

History

A separate Turkish speaking Cypriot state in the north was established in 1983.

British Forces Cyprus

British Forces Cyprus is the name given to forces in the UK Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia on the island of Cyprus and at a number of related 'retained sites'; they belong to the British Overseas Territory.[2][3] These bases were a key asset for surveillance in the Mediterranean during the cold war.[4] The United States is having access to these bases and their capabilities.[5][6]
