Biography
Josef Tage Andersen (born March 18, 1927 in Agerup, died August 31, 2006) was a Danish bank director.
Andersen started in banking in 1943, and moved to the Danish bank Landmandsbanken 1951 after a study stay in the UK. In 1980 he became CEO of the bank, which had now changed its name to Danske Bank. He was the CEO until his retirement in 1990. In 1986, the bank's later director Peter Straarup was appointed to the Executive Board. Andersen left the director's chair to Knud Sørensen.
He was known for his cautious policy, which proved sensible due to the 1980s financial sector problems. Andersen was the man behind several bank mergers, concentrating the Danish banking world in fewer hands.
Andersen was a member of several boards; Among other things, he was chairman of he Airline SAS from 1990-1994. He was also a central figure in the Danish shipping companyA.P. Møller-Maersk, not least because of his good relationship with the shipping tycoon Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller. He was a member of the European Bankers Round Table. [1]
