Not to be confused with the Canadian Privy Council or the Indian Privy Council.

The UK Privy Council (PC) is a highly secretive body responsible to the UK sovereign.[1]

Official narrative

Matthew Weaver began a 2015 story in the The Guardian on the Privy Council by stating that "The privy council is supposed to advise the Queen on the exercise of her duties, but its function is now largely ceremonial."[1]

Practices

"New members are required to kneel in front of the monarch and kiss her hand. They also have to swear to defend her against “all foreign princes, persons, prelates, states or potentates”."[1]
