Cornel West is an American academic and politician who is standing as an Independent in the US/2024 Presidential election.

Professor West has taught at Yale, Princeton and Harvard and is a professor of philosophy at Union Theological Seminary. He is known for his progressive activism, including his sharp criticism of former President Barack Obama.

Changing parties

West initially said he would run with the People’s Party, a third party led by a former campaign staff member for Senator Bernie Sanders. He subsequently said he would seek the US/Green Party’s nomination instead, and then switched again to run as an Independent.[1]

All-Black ticket

Having named Dr Melina Abdullah as his running mate for the US/2024 Presidential election, West has the first ever all-Black presidential ticket in US history.[2]

US complicit in Gaza genocide

In an exclusive interview with TRT World, West shares his “disgust” to see US politicians clapping Benjamin Netanyahu in the US Congress and says:

"US is complicit in Gaza genocide".[3]
