Education
Kesici was born on November 22, 1948 in the city of Zara. He graduated from the Middle East Technical University. He also received a master's degree there. Then he studied in the UK at the Project Planning Center at the University of Bradford. He also studied at the Royal Institute of Public Administration.
Career
Since 1972, he worked for the Turkish Railways in the Department of Research, Planning and Coordination. In 1979, he joined the Organization of State Planning at the Office of the Prime Minister. In 1984, he took the position of General Director. In 1985, he took up the position of Deputy Permanent Representative of Turkey to the European Community in Brussels. In 1987, he resumed his work in the organization of state planning. In 1991, he joined the Council of Higher Education[1].
Political career
In 1994, Kesici ran for mayor of Istanbul from the Fatherland Party, but lost the election to the candidate of the [[Welfare Party], Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In 1995, Kesici was elected member of parliament, the Grand National Assembly.
On May 22, 2007, he became a member of the Republican People's Party and was elected to Parliament from it in July of the same year. On September 28, 2010, Kesici resigned from the RNP[2], but joined it again before the parliamentary elections in June 2015[3]
In August 2015, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu offered İlhan Kesici, Erdogan Toprak, Tekin Bingel and Aisha Gulsun Bilgehan to take one of the ministerial posts in the emerging government, but they all refused.[4]
Family
He is married to Binhan Demirel, the daughter of Şevket Demirel, the brother of President Süleyman Demirel, and has one child. He speaks English well.[5][6]
