Madison Grant was an American lawyer, best known for his work as a eugenicist and naturalist curator. As a eugenicist, Grant was the author of some of the best-known racialist scientific work, and he was instrumental in tightening legislative restrictions on immigration and sterilization policy in the United States.
Grant was a close friend of several U.S. presidents, including Theodore Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, and also was an avid conservationist. As a curator, Grant is known to have saved many species of animals, founded many different environmental and philanthropic organizations, and greatly developed environmental and conservation science.
Adolf Hitler
He was the author of a 1916 book called The Passing of the Great Race, which spread the doctrine of race purity all over the globe.
Grant's ideas influenced Adolf Hitler and the emerging National Socialist movement. Hitler sent Madison Grant an enthusiastic fan letter in which he describes The Passing of the Great Race (published in German in 1925) as "his Bible".[1]
