Agreement signed in May 2011 between the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) and the Libyan rebels whereby the Israeli government undertook to encourage EU member states to formally recognise the Transitional National Council (TNC) in Benghazi as the legitimate government of Libya. In return, the Libyan rebels promised that Israel can establish a military base in the Green Mountain region of Eastern Libya, an area of outstanding natural beauty and bio-diversity that is rich in prehistoric, Greek, Roman and Islamic antiquity, or in Western Libya near the border with Algeria.
